On Campus at GCC: Faculty, alumni to present dance performances

There are dance performances and a ceramics sale slated at Glendale Community College this month.

The annual faculty/alumni dance production at Glendale Community College will be held over three days, with four performances in the school’s auditorium beginning Friday.

Performances will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. Children under 5 years old will not be admitted.

Dancers in the show include students enrolled in the college’s jazz performance-skills class. The choreography is by faculty, students, alumni and guests.

Ceramics sale raises funds for school program

The holiday ceramics sale, a semiannual fundraising event for the ceramics department at Glendale Community College, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday in the school’s student center.

A large selection of handmade functional and decorative items made by students in porcelain, stoneware, raku, earthenware and majolica will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the sale go toward equipment and supplies for the department and help to fund guest lecturers and workshops for the college’s ceramics studio.

Winter and spring registration continues

Open registration is underway for the winter 2020 session and will continue through Jan. 3. The winter session will begin on Jan. 6. Open registration for spring 2020 is ongoing until Feb. 13, with the semester starting Feb. 18.

College applications are online at glendale.edu/apply.

There is a special course offered during the winter session for licensed emergency-medical technicians, or EMTs, who are interested in recertifying their state EMT card.

Emergency Medical Technician 141 is a refresher course that provides the required 24 hours of continuing education to recertify. The class will meet Jan. 17, 18 and 19.

In the spring, a new cloud-computing program will begin, with the first course, called Cloud Computing Fundamentals, to be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:40 to 9:50 p.m.

Winter community-services catalog available

The online community-services education catalog for winter is available now at glendale.edu/cse.

There are certificate programs including medical insurance billing and coding, phlebotomy technician, pharmacy technician, veterinary assistant and clinical medical assistant. There are also personal enrichment courses in health and fitness, creative arts, money management, recreation, performing arts and trips and tours.

Community-services education provides noncredit, fee-based classes and activities for those who want to explore personal interests, enhance their professional skills or train for a new career.
