The Twitter fashion police are still fighting over Emma Stone’s red Giambattista Valli gown. I am a fan, I think the oversized bow at the neck is festive and an appropriately bold statement for Oscar night. It’s also whimsical, which is what I think of when I think of Stone’s character Skeeter in “The Help.”

Stone accessorized with a Louis Vuitton clutch, and a white gold and diamond chain link bracelet, also by Louis Vuitton. I haven’t noticed many other interesting jewels, aside from the darling bow-shaped diamond brooch pinned at the hip of Michelle Williams’ Louis Vuitton gown, and the dangling sapphire and emerald Bulgari earrings Tina Fey is wearing with her Carolina Herrera gown. Fey and Williams’ gowns have peplums, which are having a fashion moment this spring. God help us.

Fey told Tim Gunn, “At first I feared the peplum, but now I love the peplum.”
