It’s spooky season for kids, but Halloween on a Monday makes restaurateurs giddy.

The weekday, normally the wimpiest day for eateries, will get a boost from guests during the ghoulish holiday, according to the National Restaurant Assn.

A fifth of Americans -– and a third of people ages 18 through 34 -- will order takeout or delivery on Halloween, according to a report from the trade group. A quarter of younger adults will go out to a restaurant or bar to celebrate.

Of the partiers planning to venture out, a third will patronize places with happy hour or other pricing specials, according to the report. Other popular spots will be the ones encouraging Halloween costumes or competitions, offering family activities or located near parties, parades or haunted houses.

One of those could be McDonalds, which has a treat planned for costumed trick-or-treaters. At some Southern California locations, children under age 12 will get free apple slices between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Halloween.

The handouts are a nod to the fast-food chain’s newly refurbished Happy Meals, which feature a serving of fruit or vegetables and smaller portions of French fries.
