Fred Armisen forms rock supergroup for Troubadour show

Fred Armisen has been known to garner a number of notable musicians for cameos in his humorous IFC skit-show “Portlandia.” Now, the seasoned comedian is forming a rock supergroup for one Troubadour show on Sept. 14.

The group, Dead Men Walking, will consist of the Living End’s Chris Cheney, Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, the Damned’s Captain Sensible, Mike Peters of the Alarm and the Stray Cats’ Slim Jim Phantom. They’re slated to perform both original material and “old favorites.”

More special guests have been promised, opening up countless possibilities with Armisen’s comedic and musical backgrounds. Before his 11 years on “Saturday Night Live,” Armisen was the drummer in Trenchmouth, a Chicago-based punk rock band, in the early ‘90s.

If Pop & Hiss were to venture a guess as to at least one of the guests, one could do worse than speculate an appearance by Annie Clark, who performs under the St. Vincent moniker.

The artist will be temporarily filling in as the ringleader for Armisen’s 8G Band on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” She’ll lead the group on Aug. 11 and 12.

Clark won’t be the first musical act to be featured with the 8G Band, as J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles have previously participated. She will be the first guest to front the “Late Night” ensemble, though.

Tickets for the Dead Men Walking show go on sale Friday at 1 p.m. Pacific time. They’re $15 in advance and $20 the day of show.
