Hot Property: Brentwood estate of 48 acres going up for auction

Share

The Amber Hills compound in Brentwood is a rare find in built-out, arid Los Angeles. The estate encompasses 48 acres and a lake. There’s plenty of room for horse corrals and access to riding trails. In short, it’s a spread.

What’s less rare for L.A. but still prized is the rich Hollywood history. The exterior of the main house was used as a scene setter for the TV series “Hart to Hart” (1979-84). Among former residents were film stars Dick Powell and June Allyson.

Originally priced at $40 million, the multi-structure property is going up for auction June 28 to be sold to the bidder offering the most above the $14.5 million reserve price.

A gated quarter-mile driveway lined with trees leads to the 12,000-square-foot main house surrounded by lush landscaping, pathways, bridges and extensive terraces.

Inside, the two-story great room has a flagstone fireplace and a wine bar. Interior details include coffered and coved ceilings, copper kitchen appliances and leaded-glass kitchen cabinets.

Guest houses, a tennis court with pavilion, a caretaker’s cottage, a workshop/maintenance building and a well are on site. Bedrooms total 13, and there are seven full bathrooms and five half-baths.

Views take in the Santa Monica Mountains and the ocean.

The compound is owned by philanthropist Glorya Kaufman, the widow of Donald Kaufman who founded the home-building company Kaufman & Broad with Eli Broad. Today the firm is called KB Home.

The auction will be conducted by Concierge Auctions in conjunction with Jeff Hyland and Marcie Hartley of Hilton & Hyland, Joyce Rey and Linda May of Coldwell Banker, and John Woodward of Keller Williams.

The event will be held live on the property at 3100 Mandeville Canyon Road, Los Angeles.
