Adrian Gonzalez to the Dodgers: another indicator

Adrian Gonzalez is not in the Boston Red Sox lineup for tonight’s game against the Kansas City Royals in Boston, another indicator that the left-handed-hitting slugger could be headed to the Dodgers.

Gonzalez had been at first base in 123 of the Red Sox’ 125 games.

And at Dodger Stadium, James Loney has been scratched from the starting lineup for tonight’s game against the Miami Marlins. Loney is in a first-base platoon with Juan Rivera, but Loney starts against right-handers. Miami’s starting pitcher tonight is Nathan Eovaldi, a right-hander whom the Dodgers traded to the Marlins as part of their acquisition of shortstop Hanley Ramirez.

The Dodgers and Red Sox have been working on a deal that could bring Gonzalez to Los Angeles along with pitcher Josh Beckett, outfielder Carl Crawford and utility man Nick Punto.

Loney would go to the Red Sox along with prospects. Pitchers Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster and Zach Lee, along with outfielder-first baseman Jerry Sands have been mentioned as players who could move from the Dodgers to the Red Sox.

Crawford has already cleared waivers. Gonzalez and Beckett were claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on Friday and the teams now have 48 hours to work out a deal.
