Playa del Rey St. Bernard has reduced financial aid for students for the coming school year, which could produce an exodus of top athletes.

Tod Tamberg, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, said he doesn’t know the exact reduction in financial aid to students but insisted the school is in ‘sound fiscal condition.’

‘They’re keeping within their means,’ he said.

St. Bernard’s enrollment for the 2011-12 school year was 339 students, according to the Southern Section directory.

‘Each of the parents has to go over their budget and see how they can compensate,’ Tamberg said.

St. Bernard’s football team could take a personnel hit but the school has not dropped any teams, according to Tamberg.

School begins on Aug. 20.
