Meanwhile, Japanese site Macotakara has reported that sources in China say Apple has actually started production on the new phone, which is expected to arrive in October, around the same time the iPhone 4S did last year.

The next iPhone is expected to have a 4-inch screen that will make it taller than current iPhones, which have a 3.5-inch screen.

Various outlets have been reporting details of the next iPhone over the last couple of months, and current rumored changes point at the device’s largest overhaul since the iPhone upgraded from the 3GS to the iPhone 4 in 2010.

The iPhone: 5 years running

Besides a larger screen, the iPhone 5 is expect to have a new, smaller dock connector and redesigned speakers. The phone’s headphone jack and one of its speakers are also expected to be placed in different locations than they are now. The back panel is also expected to look different and be joined with the antenna in one piece.
