Mitt Romney says he’s considering ‘Saturday Night Live’ cameo

Mitt Romney on “Saturday Night Live”? That is, the real Mitt Romney, not Jason Sudeikis’ version. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee says he’s considering it.

“Of course it would depend on the nature of the skit. I want it to be funny,” he told ABC’s Diane Sawyer in an interview set to air Monday evening.

Romney said he has often set his DVR to record the weekly sketch comedy show and watched its take on the GOP race. Sudeikis, who also has played Vice President Joe Biden, is “very good,” Romney added.

Sudeikis-as-Romney led the show again last week, with him and his defeated GOP rivals reminiscing about the primary campaign to the tune of Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of your Life).”

Show producer Lorne Michaels has invited Romney to appear, the New York Times reported during weekend.

An “SNL” appearance would seem a no-brainer for Romney as he looks to pivot toward the general election, giving him an opportunity to poke at his square public persona.

Then-Sen. Barack Obama played himself playing himself in a Halloween sketch months before the first Democratic primaries in 2008.

“I have nothing to hide. I enjoy being myself. I’m not going to change who I am just because it’s Halloween,” Obama said, jesting with Amy Poehler’s Hillary Rodham Clinton.
