A Hollywood Hills West home formerly owned by Groucho Marx is for sale at $4.2 million.
Roughly six months after it sold for $3.45 million, a Hollywood Hills West estate once home to legendary film comic Groucho Marx has flipped back on the market at about a 22% markup — $4.2 million.
Built in 1935, the crisp, white two-story traditional was previously renovated and expanded to about 3,700 square feet. A recent round of cosmetic updates introduced characteristics of the Hollywood Regency style.
Beyond the covered porch and black-hued front door, the home includes formal living and dining rooms, a den/library, a wet bar, four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a powder room. A family room with a wall of built-ins opens to the kitchen, which has a center island. A writer’s nooks sits off the upstairs master suite and has a balcony overlooking the grounds.
Brickwork in the backyard surrounds a swimming pool with a raised spa. Various patios, a shower room with a sauna, lawns and hedges fill out the roughly 10,000-square-foot lot.
Marx, whose scores of credits include “Duck Soup” (1933) and “Animal Crackers” (1930), bought the property in 1946 and owned it for about three years, The Times previously reported. Celebrated horror film producer Irwin Yablans, known for the “Halloween” films, is another former owner.
