A Los Angeles County Jail inmate died early Sunday, shortly after fellow inmates reported that he was having a seizure.

Inmates at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic told deputies about 7 a.m. that a man in their dorm was having a seizure, said Deputy Guillermina Saldaña of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

The man became unresponsive as he was being moved to the maximum-security facility’s infirmary, Saldaña said.

Paramedics from the county Fire Department tried to revive the man.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released pending notification of his family.

The death is under investigation by sheriff’s homicide detectives.

The coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Saldaña said.

On Friday, an inmate died under “suspicious” circumstances in a state prison in Lancaster.

Gordon Rowell, 33, who was serving a manslaughter sentence, was found unresponsive in his cell at the California State Prison-Los Angeles County.

Officials have not said why Rowell’s death was considered suspicious.
