Two transients armed with a stick and a knife beat and stabbed a homeless man to death during a fight in the Westlake neighborhood near downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night, police said.

“It was two against one,” said Sgt. Raul Pedroza of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Station.

The fatal fight happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Sixth Street and Virgil Avenue, Pedroza said, adding that it was unclear how the fight had started.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, had visible stab wounds on his body and was transported to a hospital, where he died.

Witnesses helped police locate the two suspects -- Arthur James Deblanc, 41, and Sarah Wilson, 25 -- at a park near where the fight had broken out.

Both suspects were booked on murder charges Sunday.
