Police are expected to hold a news conference Monday to discuss the death of a Cal State Northridge student from Saudi Arabia.

Los Angeles police said Sunday that two people have been arrested in connection with death of Abdullah Abdullahtif Alkadi, but few details have been released in the case of the engineering student whose body was discovered at 11:50 p.m. Thursday along Interstate 10 near the Cook Street overpass in Palm Desert.

Officials said Alkadi, 23, was last seen about noon Sept. 17 at his home in the 9900 block of Reseda Boulevard in Northridge.

Police said his brother told investigators that Alkadi had recently sold his Audi on Craigslist. Police have recovered the car.

Officials also said Alkadi’s cellphone was traced to Beaumont in Riverside County, but it was then deactivated.

His brother, Ahmed Alkad, told KTLA that his family is in shock.

“They couldn’t believe what happened, because they sent their child to study, not to like get into this situation and involved in a problem that he shouldn’t have been involved with,” he said.
