‘Orphan Black’ fans relieved at Tatiana Maslany’s SAG Awards nomination

If there’s one performer out there whose fans have been rabid in their support, it’s Tatiana Maslany. The star of “Orphan Black,” the science fiction series on BBC America, has not gotten a lot of awards show love, despite playing multiple roles. But the tide may finally be turning, thanks to her SAG Awards nomination Wednesday for female actor in a drama series.

Maslany will be competing in a six-way race against Claire Danes from “Homeland,” Viola Davis from “How to Get Away With Murder,” Julianna Margulies from “The Good Wife,” Maggie Smith from “Downton Abbey” and Robin Wright from “House of Cards.”

Maslany was snubbed at the SAG Awards last year when she didn’t even get a nomination. She also failed to get an Emmy nomination earlier this year, though she was finally nominated at the Golden Globes way back in January.

Did we mention that she plays a dozen different parts in the series about a cloned woman on the run from her corporate biotech creators?

In a statement, Maslany said, “Thank you so much to the Screen Actors Guild for this incredible honor! I can’t believe I’m in the company of such an amazing group of artists. It means so much to me and everyone on ‘Orphan Black’ to have this kind of support from our peers. Thank you!”

Needless to say, fans on Twitter were thrilled that Maslany was finally getting recognized for her showstopping performance.

One fan wrote, “My main reaction to the SAG noms is TATIANA MASLANY. F I N A L LY.”

Another cheered, “You go girl!!!”

But now that she’s been nominated, these fans aren’t content to sit back. She needs to go the distance or there will be more trouble. As yet another fan wrote, “If Tatiana Maslany doesn’t win Best Actress SAG for the past season of Orphan Black I will taste the disgust for weeks.”

Luckily, this won’t be Maslany’s last shot at awards glory. The series has been renewed for a third season to air in 2015.

The SAG Awards will be handed out on Jan. 25.
