TV ratings: ‘America’s Got Talent’ boosts NBC; Fox’s ‘Utopia’ slumps

“America’s Got Talent” elevated NBC to No. 1 in the key demographic and overall, according to Nielsen.

About 9.7 million people tuned in to the Nick Cannon-hosted reality show to watch the season’s top 12 acts. The episode earned a rating of 1.9 among the key 18-to-49-year-old demographic. Only six acts will advance to the finals. The winner will be announced during next week’s season finale.

According to data provided by Canvs, a social TV platform created by social-media insight firm Mashwork, there were 40,204 tweets about Tuesday’s episode, of which 14,648 contained reactions. “Amazing” was the most common reaction, in 57.9% of the reaction tweets, followed by “good” at 9.5%.

Performer Mat Franco was the most mentioned in tweets with reactions, with viewers expressing disbelief at his performance.

Also on NBC, the “Food Fighters” season finale earned a rating of 1.0 in the key demo, down 9% from last week. The Adam Richman-hosted show was the third-most watched of the night, with 4.4 million viewers.

The network took first with almost 8 million viewers and a rating of 1.6 among the key demo.

In its new time slot, CBS’ “Big Brother” was the most watched among the key demo with a rating of 2.3. Overall, the privacy deprivation show averaged 6.7 million viewers, making it the second-most-watched program of the night.

The network also earned the No. 2 spot overall and among the key demo, averaging 3.8 million viewers and a rating of 1.2.

Meanwhile, Univision’s telenovelas “Mi Corazón es Tuyo” and “Hasta El Fin Del Mundo” tied for third-most watched among the key demo with a rating of 1.3.

The Spanish-language network was third-most watched among the key demo with a rating of 1.1.

Without a football lead-in, Fox’s “Utopia” was down 55% from its Sunday premiere with a rating of 0.9 among the key demo.

According to data provided by Canvs, there were 9,823 total tweets about Tuesday’s episode. About 3,125 of the tweets contained reactions with words such as “love” (25.4%), “crazy” (14.8%) and “stupid” (14.4%).

The show, which follows contestants in a remote location, had fewer reactions and overall tweets than Sunday’s season premiere, which garnered 9,826 reactions out of 20,113 tweets.

Elsewhere on the network, Gordon Ramsay’s “Hotel Hell,” which didn’t have its usual “Masterchef” lead-in, was down 31% from last week’s episode with a rating of 0.9 in the key demo.

On ABC, the season finale of “Extreme Weight Loss” earned a rating of 1.0 in the key demo, down 23% from last year’s finale. About 3.8 million people tuned in.
