Authorities charged a 43-year-old convicted sex offender Monday with posing as an undercover police officer and raping a woman in Torrance.

Guy Allen Dietz is accused of attacking the woman Thursday at a home, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

“He presented a badge and handcuffs and claimed to be an undercover police officer,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

At the time, Dietz was free on bail in a separate case in which he was charged with failing to register as a sex offender in connection with a 1998 rape conviction, prosecutors said.

As the woman tried to flee the Torrance home, Dietz struck her. She managed to get away and call the Torrance Police Department, according to authorities.

Dietz escaped to Monterey County, where he is accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase Friday before being apprehended.

Dietz, who lives in Calabassas, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning at the Torrance courthouse.

He was being held Tuesday at the Torrance jail, according to online booking records.
