Look at these dramatic photos of Papua New Guinea’s volcanic eruption
A volcanic eruption spewed lots of ash in Papua New Guinea on Friday morning, generating evacuations and a flow of dramatic photos.
Mount Tauvrur, which destroyed the town of Rabaul when it erupted in 1994, began to steam and spit smoke Friday, prompting the evacuation of nearby communities and causing some international flights to be diverted, according to the Associated Press.
Meanwhile, an eruption near one of Iceland’s largest glaciers continues to cause earthquakes and other disruptions in that country, meteorologists said. The volcanic activity entered its 13th day in the country, where the Bardarbunga volcano, which sits underneath Iceland’s largest glacier, continued to cause seismic activity, according to the country’s meteorological service. It was being closely watched because volcanic activity there has caused major flight delays in the past.
Meteorologists said at least two powerful quakes were detected on Friday, while small amounts of lava continued to drain from the eruption site.
No one has been injured in either country.
