Chelsea Clinton has ended her term at NBC News.

The pregnant daughter of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton signed off from her correspondent duties to “continue focusing” on her work at the Clinton Foundation and “look forward to welcoming” her first child with husband Marc Mezvinsky. (And help her mom out with what could be a presidential campaign, perhaps?)

She’s leaving a gig that raised eyebrows when it was reported that NBC News was paying the broadcast journalism newbie a $600,000 annual salary before she went month-to-month earlier this year.

The two-term White House resident announced in April that she was expecting her first child with the investment banker, whom she wed in 2010. No word yet on whether it’s a boy or girl.

Clinton bid farewell to her post in a Facebook update Friday bearing the salutation “Thank You.” In it, she recounted the “make a difference” stories she reported on the network. The 34-year-old joined the news organization in November 2011 and worked with anchor Brian Williams on NBC’s “Nightly News” and his newsmagazine “Rock Center.”

“I am profoundly grateful to NBC viewers who responded to the stories I shared, providing funds to help expand the reach of those programs and who encouraged their schools’ principals, their mayors and local activists to think about how to build similarly transformative programs in their own communities,” Clinton wrote.

“It’s been a privilege to be part of the NBC Family. I admire the work and dedication that their reporters, producers, crews, editors and studio teams deliver every day, particularly as I personally experienced through the stewardship of Brian Williams at Nightly News and Rock Center.”

Clinton later added that despite the conclusion of her role, she looks “forward to working with the NBC family well into the future.”

And there are always those $75,000-a-pop speaking engagements ...
