Ready for his close-up

Share

Photographer Frankie Castro. has shot hundreds of portraits on the streets of Los Angeles in an effort to capture the city’s “true human condition.”

Last month, Castro was roaming Broadway with his Canon 5D when he spotted a man looking at his reflection through a window. Castro says he was touching his hair, holding his beard and dragging his feet. “He seemed lonely and depressed.”

Frankie waited for the man to approach him. They spoke briefly and then, with the man’s approval, Frankie started to shoot stills.

Together, they made several images and talked some more.

“I always wanted to be an actor,” he still remembers the man saying.

Castro says he rarely gets attached to his subjects, but it was different this time. “I imagined him reflecting on his life and feeling alone,” Castro said. “No one deserves that feeling.”
