LAPD increases DUI patrols in Hollywood, downtown for Cinco de Mayo
Los Angeles police will be patrolling the streets around the city’s popular drinking areas during Cinco de Mayo celebrations Monday in an effort catch drunk drivers, officials said.
Extra officers assigned to look for impaired drivers will be out in force in downtown L.A., near the USC campus and in Hollywood from noon Monday to 3 a.m. Tuesday, depending on the location.
The patrols are the last element of a weeklong DUI enforcement effort by police. Officers conducted DUI checkpoints in North Hollywood and East L.A. last week, among other areas.
Funding for the extra patrols comes from the state’s Office of Traffic Safety.
