Newborn girl found buried alive near Compton riverbed
A call came in to the Compton sheriff’s station the day after Thanksgiving: A baby was crying near a riverbed at 136th Street and Slater Avenue.
Two sheriff’s deputies who went to the scene around 4 p.m. zeroed in on the muffled cries, according to a news release by Sgt. Marvin Jaramilla of the sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau.
Inside a crevice on a bike path along the riverbank, they found a newborn girl, buried under pieces of asphalt and rubble.

She was alive. A photograph provided by the Sheriff’s Department shows a deputy cradling her in his arms near the spot where she was found.
The baby, who has a head of dark hair and was believed to be three to four days old, was taken to the hospital, where she remains in stable condition, Jaramilla said.
Anyone with information about the baby should call the Special Victims Bureau at (877) 710-LASD or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
Sheriff’s officials urge parents wishing to surrender their babies to do so at any hospital or fire station in Los Angeles County, no questions asked.
