We are the champions

Tyree Harris took this photograph of Josh Gouch at the Venice Basketball League championships in Venice Beach on Aug. 30.

Harris, who follows the VBL as a part of a photography series on Los Angeles basketball culture, was at the final game, which he said was “a close game against the favored, back-to-back champions, the “Brand Black All Stars.”

“Following the end of the game, the team and its supporters rushed the court. I sprinted to get to where the team was celebrating,” the photographer said.

The team sang “We Are the Champions,” he said, as one player “grabbed the mic, Kevin Garnett-style, and shouted ‘Anything is possible!’ and another player crowd-surfed over teammates.”

Harris used a Canon 6D and 35-millimeter 1.4L lens and later processed it through the VSCO application.
