How does Lamborghini celebrate a birthday? With this $2-million Centenario

Lamborghini is honoring the 100th anniversary of its founder’s birth with the introduction of a very fast, very expensive supercar.

The Centenario, first revealed last month at the Geneva Motor Show, celebrates the centenary of Ferruccio Lamborghini, born in Northern Italy on April 28, 1916.

The industrialist, who began his motorsports career in the tractor business, would be proud. The new car ain’t no tractor.

The Centenario will be a lightweight supercar, powered by a massive V-12 engine — the most powerful ever built by Lamborghini — that will make a staggering 770 horsepower and jet from zero to 60 mph in under 2.8 seconds.

Built almost entirely from carbon fiber, the Centenario features four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, plus a rear wing that will deploy, extend and even rotate to maximize aerodynamic efficiency.

That wing will help the supercar achieve a top speed of 217 mph. The trunk space is designed to accommodate two helmets, reinforcing the idea that this car will be taken to the race track.

The forward-leaning Centenario will also contain current entertainment and information systems, via Apple CarPlay and a 10-inch touch screen in the dash. On the track, the screen can be calibrated to display track times, top speeds and G-forces. Two interior cameras can be set to record the driver’s race face.

The car will come in coupe and roadster formats, and only 20 of each will be made. The MSRP will start at just below $2 million.

But unless you’ve already placed your order, forget it. Lamborghini says all 40 Centenarios have already been sold.
