Fire erupts on pool deck at Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas

A fire at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas burned trees and cabanas on a pool deck on Saturday, sending plumes of thick black smoke up the side of the skyscraper.

According to the Clark County Fire Department, one person was transported to the hospital. Details on a condition were not available.

By early afternoon, the fire had been contained, but not before tourists and hotel guests quickly posted photos of the raging fire at Bamboo Pool, which promises ultimate relaxation in a desert-like landscape.

In the photos, flames can be seen engulfing palm trees and stretching alongside the rim of the pool. The smoke was visible from the Las Vegas Strip.

According to the Cosmopolitan, the fire had not affected any of the rooms, but a part of the hotel had been evacuated.

On Saturday, the 2,995-room hotel was fully booked by conference attendees and vacationers.
