Harry Shearer — voice of Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns — leaving ‘The Simpsons’?

Actor Harry Shearer, known as the voices of Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Mr. Smithers, Seymour Skinner and so on, seems to be leaving “The Simpsons,” he says.

In two late-night tweets from Shearer’s verified Twitter account, the long-time cartoon series actor implied he was done.

Brooks is the co-creator and an executive producer of "The Simpsons."

Shearer could not be reached for additional comment.

Hours after the initial tweets, Shearer commented on the response.

His name began trending on Twitter following the announcement.

On May 4, the Fox Broadcasting Company announced it renewed "The Simpsons" for a 27th and 28th season, taking the series to 625 episodes.

The show, which premiered in 1989, has won numerous awards, including 31 Emmys, 31 Annie Awards and a 2015 People's Choice Award, according to Fox.
