Some of the largest museums in Southern California will offer free general admission to the public for one day only on Jan. 30.

In all, 30 institutions are expected to participate in the free day, including the L.A. County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Natural History Museum of L.A. County.

The event is part of the Museums Free-for-All program, an annual initiative from SoCal Museums, a group of marketing and communications professionals from museums throughout the region.

Some of the participating museums --- like the Broad, the Getty Museum and the Hammer Museum -- already offer free general admission on all days.

Regular parking fees apply. The free offer is good only for general admission, not for specially ticketed exhibitions. Participating museums that are normally closed on Saturdays will offer free admission on Jan. 31.
