Andy Samberg: Hit or miss as the Emmys host?

Twitter users overwhelmingly say it's the former, with many taking to the social media platform to express praise for the actor and comedian.

The awards show, which aired on Fox, sparked about 1 million tweets, according to early Nielsen Twitter TV ratings. Of the tweets, 395,094 contained "reactions," or tweets with emotions, according to Canvs, a social TV platform created by the firm Mashwork. The company uses relevant tweets, provided by Nielsen, to gauge what emotions people have about TV. The tweets are then broken down into reactions.

There were about 20,071 tweets that mentioned Samberg. Of those, an estimated 8,453 were "reactions." An estimated 42% of the reaction tweets contained emotions of love, with social media users lauding the host's jokes, particularly his introduction. About 23.4% of fans with reactions on Twitter said Samberg was "good."

Fans were especially excited when Samberg handed out his HBO GO username. Did someone say free "Game of Thrones" access?

Even celebrities loved him.

Still, there were some haters. Canvs data show there were 1,411 hate tweets (about 17% of reaction tweets), toward the "Saturday Night Live" alum.

But all in all, according to Twitter, the most tweeted about moment was actually Viola Davis' acceptance speech for lead actress in a drama. The most tweeted about star of the night was not Samberg but actually musician Lady Gaga.

Full Twitter TV activity and reach data for the U.S. market will be released by Nielsen later on Monday morning.
