‘Budapest Hotel’, ‘Birdman,’ ‘Guardians’ earn makeup and hair honors

“Birdman,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” were the feature film winners at the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylist Guild Awards Saturday evening at the Paramount Studios Theatre.

Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou won contemporary makeup and David White earned the award for special makeup effects for “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Frances Hannon and Julie Dartnell won for period and/or character makeup and period and/or character hair styling for “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”

And Jerry Popolis and Kat Drazen earned the award for contemporary hair styling for “Birdman.”

In the TV and New Media series category, Tracey Anderson, Michelle Garbin and Sabine Roller Taylor won for contemporary makeup for “Sons of Anarchy” and Mary Guerrero, Kimi Messina and Jennifer Guerrero-Mazursky received the award for contemporary hair styling for “Dancing With the Stars.”

Magi Vaughan and Erika Okvist won for period and/or character makeup and Vaughan and Adam James Phillips won for period and/or character hair styling for “Downton Abbey.”

Greg Nicotero and Jake Garber took home the award for special makeup effects for “The Walking Dead.”

The winners in the TV miniseries or motion picture made for television category were Gail Kennedy, Joanne Preece and Gunther Schetterer for contemporary makeup for “Fargo” and Claire Pritchard-Jones and Sarah Astley-Hughes earned the award for contemporary hair styling for “Sherlock.”

“American Horror Story: Freak Show” won three awards: period and/or character makeup for Eryn Krueger Mekash and Kim Ayers; period and/or character hair styling for Monte C. Haught and Michelle Ceglia; and special makeup effects for Eryn Krueger Mekash, Michael Mekash and Christopher Nelson.

Awards were also handed out in commercial, music videos and theatrical productions categories.

Guillermo Del Toro was the recipient of the Distinguished Artisan Award. Oscar-winner Rick Baker received the Make-Up Artist Lifetime Achievement Award and Emmy Award-winning Kathryn Blondell won the Hair Stylist Lifetime Achievement Award.
