Alfonso Cuaron, the filmmaker who won an Academy Award earlier this year for directing “Gravity,” will be honored by the Museum of Modern Art in New York at its annual film benefit scheduled for Nov. 10.

The museum said that Cuaron’s films, which also include “Y Tu Mama Tambien,” “Children of Men” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” encompass grand-scale Hollywood productions as well as more modestly scaled independent efforts.

The Mexican director will be feted at a gala dinner celebration whose honorary co-chairs include Marie-Josee Kravis and Jerry I. Speyer, president and chairman, respectively, of the museum’s board of trustees.

Other event co-chairs include Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch, Stefano Tonchi, Kevin Tsujihara, and Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller. Tsujihara is chairman and chief executive of Warner Bros., which released “Gravity” last year.

“Gravity,” which starred Sandra Bullock as a scientist adrift in space, won a total of seven Oscars. Cuaron won a second Oscar that night for his editing work on the movie.

MoMA said its annual film benefit raises money for film acquisition and preservation activities, as well as providing support for upcoming film exhibitions at the museum.

Last year’s film honoree was actress Tilda Swinton, who earlier in the year participated in a living installation at MoMA in which she laid in a transparent box.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will honor Quentin Tarantino and artist Barbara Kruger at its own annual Art + Film benefit, scheduled to take place Nov. 1.
