Brian Williams misremembers -- and the Internet won’t let him forget it

The social media reaction to "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams' admission that he was in fact not aboard a U.S. military helicopter that was hit by enemy fire and grounded during the 2003 Iraq invasion has been swift and brutal.

On the show Wednesday night, Williams said he "made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago" when he talked about the incident during a segment last week. Williams and his crew were not on the chopper hit by rocket-propelled grenades, but rather on one following that helicopter, he said in his apology Wednesday.

Last week's segment wasn't the first time Williams told the inaccurate story. Last year, on "Late Show With David Letterman," he also said he was on the aircraft that was hit -- and social media users are making sure that's not forgotten.
