Steak ‘n Shake and Japadog to open in Santa Monica, Ice-Cream Lab in Pasadena

The Steak ‘n Shake restaurant chain is opening a location on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica Tuesday. Steak ‘n Shake, known for its steakburgers and milkshakes will serve its signature burgers, including the Double ‘n Cheese Steakburger, hand-dipped milk shakes, freshly-squeezed lemonade, beer and wine. The first 100 customers in line at the opening will receive free Steak ‘n Shake for a year. 1455 3rd Street Promenade, Santa Monica, www.steaknshake.com.

Japadog, the Vancouver, Canada, brand, known for fusing Japanese flavors with hot dogs, is opening a cart at the Santa Monica Pier Thursday. The cart will sell Japadog’s most famous dog, the Terimayo, made with an all beef dog topped with fried onions, teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo and seaweed, along with an Oroshi dog topped with daikon, the Hot and Spicy dog topped with jalapeño hot sauce and more. There will be a cheddar brat, original brat, beef, turkey, veggie and eventually a Kurobuta pork sausage. The cart will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is located in front of the amusement park. 200 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, www.japadog.com.

The Ice-Cream Lab in Beverly Hills, known for its made-to-order liquid nitrogen ice cream, is opening a location in Pasadena Friday. Guests can choose from four traditional flavors and six seasonal specialties made with a custard or yogurt base. Ice cream techs then use a machine that uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the ice cream. The Ice-Cream Lab will be open Sunday to Wednesday from noon to 11 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from noon to midnight. 16 S. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, www.icecreamlab.com.
