The Buffalo Sabres acquired goalie Grant Fuhr from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday in exchange for left wing Dave Andreychuk, reserve goalie Daren Puppa and the Sabres’ first-round draft pick in June.

The Sabres also received either the Maple Leafs’ fifth- or sixth-round pick in 1995.

Fuhr, 30 and in his 12th NHL season, was a member of five Stanley Cup champions with the Edmonton Oilers. His record is 264-159-63, including 13-9-4 for the Maple Leafs this season. His victory total leads all active NHL goaltenders.

Fuhr sat out the first 55 games of the 1990-91 season because of a drug-related suspension by the NHL.

Andreychuk, 32, second on the Sabres’ all-time scoring list, has 29 goals and 32 assists this season in 52 games.

Maple Leaf Coach Pat Burns is expected to make rookie Felix Potvin his starting goalie. The Maple Leafs also have Rick Wamsley.
